For example, if you start work at 9:00 AM and finish at 5:30 PM, the raw difference is 8 hours and 30 minutes. If you take a 30-minute lunch break, the final working time becomes 8 hours. The calculation process converts hours into minutes using the formula: Total Minutes = (Hours × 60) + Minutes.
The system also supports overnight shifts. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift continues into the next day and adjusts the total duration accordingly.

Total Duration in Minutes = End Minutes − Start Minutes. If a break is included, Net Working Minutes = Total Duration − Break Minutes. The final output is converted back into hours and minutes using: Hours = Floor(Total Minutes ÷ 60) and Remaining Minutes = Total Minutes mod 60.
For overnight shifts, if End Minutes is less than Start Minutes, the system adds 24 × 60 = 1440 minutes to the end time before subtraction. This ensures accurate calculation across midnight boundaries.
